School Nurse
School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.
The School Nurse strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of students and staff; identifying, assisting, overseeing and collaborating with other school personnel in the removal or modification of health related barriers to the learning of individual students. The School RN assists in providing a safe and healthy learning environment for students and staff. The school nurse’s role is promotion, management and education of good health.
Some of the programs offered this year will include:
- Car seat safety.
- Car seat inspection station on campus.
- Pedestrian safety.
- Fire and water safety.
- Prevention of head and C-spine injuries through bike and helmet use.
- Health screenings for various age groups.
- Flu clinic offered to the entire Montessori community to include students, parents, extended family, faculty and staff.
Community experts will also address the children from the ambulance and fire department as well as law enforcement.
