Music Education
Music Education starts at a very young age at the Montessori School of Anderson. The Infant/Toddler and Primary teachers explore vocal production and range through playing games, reading and singing with the children. A music specialist also visits each room to promote this exploration and help educate the classroom teachers. The music education begins to take on a more formal setting at age five when the Rising First Graders leave their classroom weekly for music class. From 1st through 8th grade students participate in music 2 to 4 times a week depending on the age. T
The music curriculum used through out the levels is a Kodaly based curriculum. Kodaly is a methodology which teaches musical literacy using the child’s voice and body as their first instrument. The students reinforce their musical skills with orff and percussion instruments. They begin to learn recorders in the 3rd grade and Hand Chimes in Middle School. Each student begins Suzuki violin instruction at age 4 and continues through 3rd grade. After the 3rd grade Suzuki is offered to those who elect to continue.
