Timeless Teachings in a Changing World

The essential component to learning is understanding.  It is not sufficient to simply memorize  facts, tables and mathematical equations.  True learning is when the student understands that each unit has a value, each fact is supported by more facts waiting to be discovered, each mathematical equation can be manipulated to generate new results.  To learn, the mind must be respected as a thirsty sponge seeking to take in what is offered.  We must never be content to be only bound by prescribed lessons in our children’s education.  The presentation of material and the stage-appropriate prepared environment must be as limitless as their imagination and their burning desire to learn.  It is up to the excited and prepared Montessori directress to keep that “fire” burning in each child.
